Nelly Furtado Covers "Time Stand Still"

Canadian pop singer Nelly Furtado performed a cover of "Time Stand Still" for the Canadian film Score: A Hockey Musical. The film premiered across Canada Friday, October 22nd, and the soundtrack album containing Nelly's cover is now available.
"She was part of a Canadian film called Score: A Hockey Musical. We got a call that she wanted to sing that song. It's really sweet of her to do that. I don't know how she came about choosing that song, but she obviously responded to it." - Geddy Lee, BBC.com, November 10, 2010

  1. Here is a more completed version of the cover version of 'Time Stand Still' by Nelly Furtado.

  2. I read most of the comments of this sample on Youtube, most of the them are negative. I listened to it and it sounds like some other pop star could have made the same version. To me it's ok but I prefer the original.

  3. I had a listen and I'm alway fond of Rush cover songs - mainly because I think it's somewhat good to see someone attempt a cover.

Anyway, I did a comparison of the two and I'm amazed at how much fuller the original version is compared to Nelly's (okay, maybe it shouldn't be a surprise). Especially considering she has a full band behind her (drummer, percussionist, 3 back up singers, guitar, bass, etc.) while Rush is only three people (granted with two guitar tracks, synths, electronic drums).

Makes you really appreciate the Rush song more.

  4. Debate the merits of this interpretation all you want, it's fantastic that a completely different crowd is being exposed to Rush.
