Chicago Rain Out Make Up

Last night Rush returned to Chicago after the July 7th rain out, which led to one fan suing the band seeking reimbursement for the ticket but also his airfare and other travel expenses (story below). As a thank you for standing in the downpour on July 7th, RUSH gave fans attending the August 23rd makeup performance an exclusive baseball hat which includes the stitching ""The Rain Date Chicago-2010" - Thanks to Timmy Samuel for the photo!

Rush was not involved in the meeting. 'The key was the amount of water that had fallen,' Campana said. 'The wind caused the water to blow onstage. We all decided not to test the electrical system. We could have cranked up the electricity, but we felt a test could cause harm to people since they were already in the theater. Equipment was set up. We are always going to err on the conservative side when it comes to safety.'"- Chicago Sun Times, July 15, 2010

  1. It was disappointing that the show was canceled, but understandable. There looked to be a lot of water on stage. I wonder if refunds will be available if fans can't make the rescheduled show?

  2. It figures they'd reschedule for when I'm back in school.

  3. Why didn't they tell us that as we sat in the rain with no explaination. We were told from the stage that it was cancelled for our safety. The Chicago White Sox started and finished a full game a few miles away. Rain or Shine no refunds - what about their faulty equipment ???

  4. That is why you pay the extra seven or so bucks for trip insurance. I flew to Aburquerque from LA to see Rush or Rash. It is not probable the show would be canceled. But don't be cheep if your going to travel - buy the insurance loyal subject.

  5. That is why you pay the extra seven or so bucks for trip insurance. Don't be cheep or take the chance when traveling - on anything for that matter. With airfare, hotel, rental car, and all the rest that all adds up. I flew to Albuquerque from LA to see Rush, or is it Rash now? Anyway, it is not likely that this show would be canceled (first show, dry climate) etc. But if you’re going to travel to see a show -- Buy the insurance loyal subjects.

  6. I don't think I'd go as far as to call Christopher Langone's suit an act of stupidity. I personally wouldn't sue the band, but if a show I was attending got cancelled it would certainly not make me happy. I would be out a lot of money and time. I'll be taking two days off of work for the Atlanta show later this year. I hope they can figure out how to weather proof their gear by then!

  7. I would definately be upset about this...but suing is way overboard, in my opinion. You'd figure someone attending Harvard would think the same thing? I guess this proves that being book-smart is much different than street-smart.

  8. What an idiot, how can he call himself a lifelong fan of the band. If he was he would understand the reasons behind the guy's having to cancel and any true fan would walk away and make arrangments to see them again sometime in September. He should be grateful as we in the UK have the chance to see the guy's once in a few years and only usually on have the opportunity at three or four venues not the choice of 50 or 60 dates accross the country. Get over it and grow up, yours a true life long 42 year old fan.

  9. Has this idiot ever heard of travel insurance? If he had bought the tickets & airfare with a gold credit card or bought some event cancellation insurance (some ticket sellers even offer this along with the tickets) this would have been a non-issue.

Merde happens. Be prepared for it or face the consequences.

I hope the judge throws it out as a frivolous lawsuit and/or makes this fool pay the band's legal expenses. If the ticket company's lawyers are up to snuff, they'll have a "force majeure" clause in the general terms & conditions that will likely hold up very well in court.

  10. A rock concert with LOTS of electricity flowing on and beneath the stage is a lot different than a bad weather baseball game. If it wasn't safe for the band and support techs/staff to be on the stage, then I'd rather they cancel/postpone the show. Would it have been better if, say, Alex got himself fried while playing and stepping up to a mic? People who haven't been on a rock stage have no idea how dangerous electrical current can be. There's a lot to take into consideration, and if there was an inch or water on the stage (reports indicate as much) then there's no way it would have been safe for them to perform. It sucks to have a show postponed, but c'mon, stop being selfish and grow up people (those of you complaining and the a-hole suing the band).

Water + electricity is ALWAYS a bad idea.

  11. Phil, you can't "weather proof" an electric guitar, amps, etc. The danger comes from standing on a stage with an electrical instrument in your hand, stepping up to a microphone and creating an arc of current. Water on the stage and/or water seeping into wire connections, etc only heightens this. If the same rainfall happens in Atlanta, your S.O.L. dude.

  12. Last time they played in Chicago, they played the spacious and dry (except for the flow of beer) United Center. That should have chosen it for this tour.

  13. But, they didn't. For one reason, or another, maybe that venue wasn't available this go around. Who knows? Thing is, "acts of nature" cannot be blamed on a band, nor a promoter. To be disappointed is acceptable and understandable. But, to be irrational about it is, well, irrational.
