Tom Cochrane Releasing New EP featuring Alex Lifeson

Today Canada's RockstarWeekly.com announced that Tom Cochrane will be releasing a four song EP featuring Alex Lifeson later this year:
"Tom Cochrane will return with his first new release since 2006. The ‘Life is a Highway’ singer is planning a limited edition four song EP, originally scheduled for a September 2011 release. The EP, will contain three new un-released tracks and a new single and title track ‘Voices At 4 AM’, featuring Andrew Cole, Alex Lifeson (Rush), Lyle Molzen (Jann Arden, Michael Buble), Kenny Greer (Red Rider), Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, Elton) and Carl Jennings.

"The EP was announced on Cochrane's music site earlier this summer and further hype towards a greater project in 2012 was released via Cochrane's Facebook page today through a photo of Cochrane and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson reading: 'The last Leg of a musical Journey set for a 1212 Release!' It's unknown if "the last leg" refers to the current project or to Cochrane's entire music career.

"“We're doing a new song that was written by Tom Cochrane. It's called voices at 4 a.m. and I wrote the melody to it and we're going to release it in the summer as a special sort of B side thing, cause it's completely polar opposites to what I do,” Cole told the Northern News when the singer performed in Kirkland Lake this summer.  “It's not really an alter ego song, but it's something I wanted to delve into."

"Cochrane’s relationship with Cole is deeper than a new single. Tom’s wife Kathleene is Cole’s manager and Tom has appeared on the song ‘Out Of My Head’ from Cole’s debut album ‘Why We Wonder’ (Crier Records / Fontana North / Universal Music Canada).

"The new ‘Voices At 4 AM’ EP will be available as a signed CD run of 500 copies or through iTunes.

"In other Cochrane news, The Canadian Association of New York (CANY), in association with the Consulate General of Canada in New York presents Canada Sings the American Songbook featuring Tom Cochrane to commemorate the upcoming 10th anniversary of the events of 9/11/01 and include performances by such musical luminaries as Ben Heppner, Natalie MacMaster, Paul Shaffer, and Cochrane. The tribute concert event will honor the 26 Canadian families who lost loved ones on 9/11/01." - RockStarWeekly.com, September 9, 2011
